Vault Theatre is thrilled to welcome Katie Jo Fulks as our new Artistic Associate!

Katie is no stranger to Vault Theatre. Over the past two seasons, she has brought her passion, artistry, and collaborative spirit to our work as a teaching artist, tour manager, and choreographer. Now, we are delighted to have her join our core team in a more official capacity.

Originally from Huntington, West Virginia, Katie is a multifaceted artist and arts administrator who relocated to Durham after touring professionally with the West Virginia Dance Company. She holds a BFA in Dance Performance and Choreography and a BA in Arts Administration from Elon University. Katie Jo’s career spans work as a performer, choreographer, dance and theatre educator, stage manager, and freelance grant writer.

While touring with the West Virginia Dance Company, Katie worked extensively in rural schools across WV, where many students had little to no access to arts education. These experiences were formative, igniting in her a deep passion for making the arts accessible, inviting, and inspiring for all people, regardless of geography, background, or resources. This commitment has since guided her work and continues to shape the kind of artist, educator, and advocate she strives to be.

Since arriving in the Triangle, Katie has already made a meaningful impact in the arts community, working and performing with organizations such as Blue Box Theatre Co., Raleigh Little Theatre, Theatre in the Park, and the American Dance Festival, in addition to her work at Vault Theatre.

We are especially excited to deepen our collaboration with an artist whose work both on and off stage champions the power and necessity of art. Katie believes that the arts are not a luxury, they are essential. In classrooms, rehearsal spaces, and on stage, she creates environments where creativity becomes a powerful tool for learning, growth, and empowerment. Her work consistently shows how the arts can spark curiosity, build confidence, and foster meaningful collaboration, especially for young people discovering their voices and agency.

“Katie’s approach to teaching and creating is grounded in the belief that every student has something important to say. She views the arts as a dynamic space for exploration and discovery, offering young performers the opportunity to take risks, express themselves authentically, and imagine new possibilities for their future. Her work has been and will be invaluable to Vault Theatre and the students and families we serve.” says Vault Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director, Lauren Sale.

Katie's commitment to this vision makes her a perfect fit for Vault’s mission to unlock imagination and amplify young voices. With Katie on our team, we’re excited to continue growing as a space where young artists feel seen, supported, and inspired.
