Leadership Initiatives
Vault Theatre’s Leadership Initiatives empower young artists to lead both on and off the stage. Through programs that center youth voice, collaboration, and creative agency, participants develop confidence, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of the role artists play in their communities. Whether devising original work, mentoring peers, or supporting productions behind the scenes, young leaders at Vault learn to shape stories—and the spaces in which they’re told.

The Key Players Youth Board at Vault Theatre is a leadership opportunity for teens who want to dive deeper into how theatre really works—and help shape what it can be for their community. As a Key Player, you’ll attend monthly meetings with Vault Theatre's Producing Artistic Director and Teaching Artists to collaborate with and design teen-centered programs and events, while learning the ins and outs of running a nonprofit theatre.
You’ll explore producing, marketing, fundraising, and leadership all while gaining experience in advocacy and community engagement. Key Players also serve as representatives of their school theatre communities, offering insight into what young artists need and how organizations like Vault Theatre can better support school-based programs. It’s a space to connect, contribute, and make a real impact on stage and behind the scenes.
As a Key Player, you’ll:
-
Help plan programs and events created for and with young artists
-
Explore producing, marketing, leadership, and fundraising
-
Learn how nonprofit theatre works—from mission to impact
-
Build connections with peers and theatre professionals
-
Represent your school’s theatre community and share your voice
Whether you’re an artist, leader, or just curious about how theatre happens, this is your chance to take part in shaping the future of youth theatre in our region.
changemakers

Changemakers Ensemble is an innovative program where young artists collaborate to create an original performance from the ground up. Through the art of devising—a process that blends improvisation, storytelling, and ensemble-based exploration—participants shape a theatrical piece inspired by their ideas, experiences, and questions about the world around them.
Guided by a professional teaching artist, the ensemble begins with a central question—something that matters deeply to the group—and builds a performance that reflects their voices, their perspectives, and their creative vision.
Throughout the process, students engage in meaningful dialogue, sharpen their artistic skills, and discover the power of theatre to challenge perspectives and spark change. The program culminates in a fully realized performance created entirely by the ensemble.
What Makes This Program Unique:
-
Dialogue & Exploration – Use theatre to dive into topics that matter to you
-
Ensemble Creation – Collaborate with peers to devise a one-of-a-kind performance
-
Creative Ownership – Shape every part of the process, from concept to curtain
-
Real-World Connections – Draw from text, lived experiences, and community issues
-
Artistry & Agency – Grow as a performer, thinker, and changemaker
This is more than just putting on a show—it’s about building community, finding your voice, and telling the stories only you can tell.
We are planning to launch Changemakers Ensemble in January 2026 as part of Vault Theatre’s expanded programming in our new space. We are actively seeking funding to offer this program at no or low cost to participants, ensuring access for all interested young artists. Details and enrollment information will be shared once confirmed—stay tuned as this exciting opportunity takes shape!
