Step into a world where legendary heroes come to life through playful competition, physical comedy, and fast-paced, interactive storytelling! In #TallTales, two classmates, logical Emma and imaginative Zoe, bring American folklore to life with larger-than-life flair. From the outlandish feats of Paul Bunyan and Pecos Bill to the whirlwind exploits of Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind, their tall tale retellings spark laughs, debates, and a high-energy storytelling showdown where the audience helps shape what happens next.
As Emma and Zoe wrestle with tornadoes and the truth, they discover that stories aren’t always what they seem and that even the tallest tale can carry a deeper truth. With quick wit, heart, and audience participation woven throughout, #TallTales blurs the line between fact and fiction, inviting young audiences to explore creativity, critical thinking, and media literacy in a world filled with imagination.
#TallTales is an exciting, modern twist on classic folklore designed to captivate K–5 audiences and inspire lively post-performance conversations. Join us for an unforgettable performance where every challenge grows taller with every retelling.

Workshops
Bring the magic of the stage directly into your classroom!
Vault Theatre also offers a pre and post workshop that enhances the artistic experience students receive in connection with seeing #TallTales.
Prior to seeing the show, teaching artists will use active games and exercises to create a connection between the learning in the classroom to the themes in the performance. A teaching artist will return to the classroom after students have seen the show, to activate students’ own ideas in conjunction with the performance! Connecting to ELA curriculum, this pre and post workshop will encourage students to explore bringing #TallTales from page to stage directly in their classrooms!
While Vault Theatre can deliver one workshop either before or after, this program is best experienced with both a pre and post workshop bookending the experience at the theatre.
