AUDITIONS
Vault Theatre, a professional theatre company located in Durham, is dedicated to unlocking the imagination through comprehensive and innovative theatre programming onstage, in the classroom, and within the community. Vault Theatre is focused on investing in the artistic work and stories of our rising young voices. Our work celebrates stories of radical hope for the future for audiences of all ages, nurtures the artistic voices of young performers, creates dialogues for social change, and mentors early career artists for continued growth in the performing arts industry.
Vault Theatre holds auditions for both select youth programs and for professional actors for our touring productions.
Professional AuditioNs
Vault Theatre is accepting auditions for Amelia Earhart by October 26th.
ROLE: Theatre for Young Audience tour of Amelia Earhart. Casting three actors for the roles of Amelia Earhart, George Putnam, and the Reporter. Auditioning actors ages 18+. Actors of all ethnicities and gender identities are encouraged to audition.
STATUS: Non-equity contract
DATES: Rehearsals in January. First performance, January 23rd at The Carolina Theatre. Exact rehearsal schedule dependent on actors' schedules.
COMPENSATION: $22 per hour for rehearsals. Performances $22 per hour with a minimum of $88 on show days.
TO AUDITION: Submit a self-taped monologue to Producing Artistic Director, Lauren Sale at lsale@vaulttheatre.org by October 26.
THE SHOW: Vault Theatre will tour this production to schools primarily in Durham, but throughout the Triangle, and has a goal of 10 performances over the course of the touring period January 2027-May 2027, hopefully with more performances. Pick up rehearsals will be scheduled as needed.
AMELIA EARHART

Blending imagination with history, this dynamic production brings the spirit of the 1930s to the stage and invites young audiences to explore the courage, curiosity, and bold imagination it takes to chase the horizon. Amelia Earhart brings American history to life with heart, courage, and a spirit of adventure that reminds us all to aim higher.

Actor travels to performance venues and schools within the Triangle

Alongside acting partners travel with and set up touring equipment at each venue including sets, props, and sound

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Ability to maintain a positive work environment by communicating and behaving in a positive manner with all --artists, staff, schools, and young people

Prior experience working with young people as a teaching artist a plus

Actor must have reliable transportation throughout the Triangle

Have flexible schedule for weekday, daytime performances at schools

Youth Auditions
Most of Vault Theatre's programs do not require an audition. Families can sign up for Studio Classes and Musical Theatre Workshop and all students are cast! For our advanced teen program, there are auditions.
There are current auditions for VaultWorks, Vault Theatre’s audition-only program offering pre-professional training for artists ages 12–18 who are ready to dive in, take creative risks, and build fearless ensemble theatre.
VaultWorks Artist Training Spring Session 2027
VaultWorks Artist Training is excited to announce auditions for Peter and the Starcatcher. Auditions are by self-tape and being accepted through November 20th. Callbacks will be held in-person December 1 6:30-8:30pm.
