AUDITIONS

Vault Theatre, a 501(c)3 theatre company located in Durham, is dedicated to unlocking the imagination through comprehensive and innovative theatre programming onstage, in the classroom, and within the community. Vault Theatre is focused on investing in the artistic work and stories of our rising young voices. Our work celebrates stories of radical hope for the future for audiences of all ages, nurtures the artistic voices of young performers, creates dialogues for social change, and mentors early career artists for continued growth in the performing arts industry.  

Vault Theatre is auditioning for 2023-2024 Theatre for Young Audiences tour of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe 

 

AUDITION FORM 

ROLES: Theatre for Young Audience tour of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Casting two actors for the roles of Lucy and Peter. Auditioning all folks of any ethnicity, gender identity. Auditioning actors ages 18+ 

Lucy - the youngest Pevensie sister. Bright, hopeful, confident. Also plays Susan, the White Witch, and other characters 
Peter - the oldest Pevensie brother. Courageous, smart, classic older brother. Also plays Edmund, Aslan and other characters

Both characters take turns as the storytellers throughout the piece to narrate the action as well as play scenes as different characters throughout. 

STATUS: Non-equity contract 
DATES: Rehearsal in late August/early September. Performances to start end of September. Exact rehearsal schedule dependent on actors' schedules. Ideally select evening rehearsals 5-9pm and Saturdays from 1-6pm over 3-4 weeks. 
COMPENSATION: $20 per hour for rehearsals. Performances $20 per hour with a minimum of $80 on show days. 
AUDITION DETAILS: Auditions will be held in-person on Wednesday, June 14th at the NorthStar Church of the Arts (220 Geer St., Durham, NC 27701) from 5pm-8pm.

VIRTUAL AUDITION: Self-tapes accepted in lieu of in-person audition. Please use linked google form to turn in video. 

THE SHOW: Vault Theatre will tour this production to schools primarily in Durham, but throughout the Triangle, and has a goal of 10 performances over the course of the academic school year (September 2023-May 2024), hopefully with more performances. Pick up rehearsals will be scheduled as needed throughout the year. 

 

THE LION THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE
Based on the story by C.S. Lewis 
Dramatized by Le Clanche du Rand 
C.S. Lewis’s classic story is brought to life in this innovative retelling of the heroic tale of love, courage, and the triumph of good over evil. Through this magical hour of storytelling, Lucy and Peter weave the tale of the struggle for the control of Narnia. In this inventive piece, two-actors bring to the stage the larger-than-life story with all the beloved characters of the Pevensie siblings, Aslan, Mr. Tumnus and the inhabitants of Narnia fighting against the reign of the White Witch. Join this adventure into the world of Narnia! 

 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
-Actor travels to performance venues and schools within the Triangle 
-Alongside acting partners travel with and set up touring equipment at each venue including sets, props, and sound 
-This position involves working within schools and will require a background check 

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
-Ability to maintain a positive work environment by communicating and behaving in a positive manner with all --artists, staff, schools, and young people 
-Prior experience working with young people as a teaching artist a plus 
-Actor must have reliable transportation throughout the Triangle 
-Have flexible schedule for weekday, daytime performances at schools 

 

PREPARE
This is a two-person show that tells the larger than life story of Narnia! Lucy and Peter tell the story together creating all of the characters. Please prepare a monologue and be creative as you like with your chosen material.
