Lauren Sale

Lauren Sale is an arts administrator, teaching artist, and director specializing in theatre with, for, and by young people and community groups. Lauren is a proud graduate of The Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in London with an MA in Applied Theatre (Drama Education and Drama in the Community); she also holds a BFA in Theatre Performance from Niagara University.   
 
After beginning her education and administrative career in London working with The Young Vic, Hampstead Theatre, and Tender Education and Arts, Lauren has led education departments as Director of Education at Writers Theatre in Chicago, Florida Repertory Theatre in Fort Myers, FL, and North Carolina Theatre in Raleigh. She is delighted to be back in her home town of Durham.

As a teaching artist, Lauren has worked extensively delivering in-school residency programs as well as performance-based Conservatory training throughout Chicago, London, Southwest Florida and right here in the Triangle. Her in-school work includes projects with Tender Education and Arts, delivering in-school residency programs to primary and secondary schools across London exploring healthy relationships, substance misuse, and conflict resolution techniques through theatre; with the Young Vic, she delivered pre and post-performance workshops exploring themes and making personal connections to the material students saw; with Auditorium theatre Chicago, Lauren created arts-integration residencies exploring math, science, and literacy through theatre.  

In her work with Conservatory training, her students have gone on to perform professionally on Broadway, in London's West End, and across regional theatres including in Broadway’s Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Kinky Boots, Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular, Southwark Playhouse, London The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and West End’s Tina!, Motown the Musical and Grease. Her students have gone to further study at prestigious high school programs such as the acclaimed Brit School in London and UNCSA as well as musical theatre programs at University of Michigan, Rider University, and The Institute of the Arts Barcelona, among others  

As a director, favorite credits include The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Vault Theatre), Romeo & JulietThe True Story of the Three Little PigsThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Florida Repertory Theatre), The MLK Project: The Fight for Civil Rights (Writers Theatre). As a director, Lauren specializes in devising which is creating a piece of theatre from scratch. Favorite devising credits include Esse Quam Videri, Remember The Ladies (NCT Conservatory), Silos (NC Governor's School), Head in the Game, Push Play (Adventure Stage Chicago) and Happily Ever After (Hampstead Theatre).
