Changemakers Ensemble is a unique opportunity for middle and high school students to be part of the process by devising a performance from scratch. Devising is collaborative theatre created by an ensemble through improvisation, storytelling, and ensemble building. Guided by a teaching artist, the company will create an essential question that will be explored throughout the course of the rehearsal process. Through improvisation, storytelling, and ensemble-techniques, the company of young actors will explore the question and create fully devised piece of theatre to perform.

In the process of devising, learners are invited to engage in challenging dialogues about topics important to them and their communities. In this practice, students are guided in learning collaborative theatre techniques and in creating new work rooted in their own artistic voices. Pulling inspiration from text, real world connections, and personal stories, the process of creating a performance serves as a catalyst for discussion between young actor’s challenging their world view and nurturing their voices as artists and citizens.
